Who we are

Humanity today confronts the far-reaching consequences of Anthropocentrism in the Anthropocene—the epoch defined by our own imprint on the Earth. Through centuries of prioritizing human desires above all else, we have built a world where deforestation, biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution are not just symptoms but stark indicators of a society disconnected from its own origins. This detachment has given rise to profound social and environmental crises that cast uncertainty over the future of life on this planet.

The impact and consequences of our decisions have raised significant concerns, yet in the midst of these challenges, new perspectives and paradigms are emerging to help us seek answers and rebuild a harmonious relationship with nature.

We are now called to ask ourselves: How can we learn from the intelligence and resilience of the natural world, drawing insights to address these crises? How can the synergies between Art, Science, and Technology guide us toward a sustainable and inclusive future?

Are plants sentient? Intelligent? Do they possess consciousness? What is consciousness itself? Does it extend beyond humanity, residing among all life and living systems? It is along this path of self-awareness and exploration that I map my connection to botany through my artistic practice in sound and visual art, investigating how these concepts shape my worldview and resonate in my creative work.

At Botanika, we delve into nature’s frequencies through visual and sound art, transforming the chemical and electrical signals of plants and trees into interactive musical compositions that serve as a unique form of communication. This approach allows us to create music that blurs the boundaries between art, science, and nature, enabling plants and other organisms to express their presence through sound. Our work transcends the production of sound alone; it serves as a profound reconnection with the life forms around us, challenging the notion of nature as merely a resource or backdrop.

By exploring this hidden world, we foster a deeper, more harmonious relationship with our environment, bringing to light the mutual benefits of this connection—such as the positive effects of sound on plant growth through phonotropism, as well as the calming influence on humans, particularly in alleviating eco-anxiety and supporting neurodivergence.

Through this journey, we invite listeners to reimagine their relationship with the natural world, acknowledging it as a dynamic, sentient network of life with which we share a profound, reciprocal bond.
